Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur made it three wins on the bounce in the Premier League this evening with a 4-1 demolition of Crystal Palace thanks to Harry Kane and Gareth Bale.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 7 – Had barely anything to do and that’s the way we like it!

Matt Doherty – 8 – A game that suited Doherty as Crystal Palace sat back and left lots of space for him to push up into. Should have stopped the cross for Palace’s goal but seems to be gradually growing into his new role. Claimed an ‘assist’ for the Kane goal.

Davinson Sanchez – 6.5 – A decent first-half performance was let down by the fact that Sanchez and Alderweireld couldn’t mark Benteke between them in the box. Really struggled with Zaha towards the end of the game.

Toby Alderweireld – 7 – Allowed Benteke to drift between him and Sanchez with neither of them competing for the header that made it 1-1. Either side of that combined mistake, he was solid.

Sergio Reguilon – 8 – As usual, a bundle of energy both defensively and offensively down the left. Only knows how to play at 100%. Even made a few runs down the middle! Needs to pick out Son’s runs a little more.

Harry Winks – 8 – Confident and assured in the middle of the park. Played with his head up and varied his passing from short ones to long balls over the top. Very steady.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 7.5 – Got right up in the faces of the Palace midfielders and didn’t let them have a moment’s rest. It seems to defy logic how much he has played this season. Does look as though he needs a bit of a rest though.

Lucas Moura – 9 – Moura set the tone for Tottenham with his high pressure and positive running. Made the first goal by winning the ball back high up the pitch. Seemed to be involved in the build-up to every good attacking move. Superb!

Gareth Bale – 9.5 – Demanded the ball and looked to cut back onto his dangerous left foot all evening. Some delicious crosses and did well to get in the box for his tap in and the header. Only gets a 9.5 because Kane deserved to be a notch above the rest.

Heung-min Son – 8 – Drifted in and out of the game as he struggled to find areas in which to cause damage. Worked very hard though. Felt sorry for him at times as he made great runs but was consistently ignored. When they finally picked him out, he set up Kane.

Harry Kane – 10 – Some superb work in the build-up to the goal as he put it on a plate for Bale. He then assisted a second by nodding it back across for a Bale header. Kane’s first goal of his own was a thing of absolute beauty before he added another tap-in. Generational.

Substitutes:

Moussa Sissoko – 6 – Came on to see the game out and did a good job.

Erik Lamela – 6 – Bale needed to come off early for protection and Lamela is always hard-working off the bench.

Carlos Vinicius – N/A
