Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United

The less said about that the better. Tottenham fell to a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United this afternoon. Let’s take a look at the individual player ratings.

Hugo Lloris – 0 – Should have done better with pretty much every goal.

Pedro Porro – 0 – His defending down the right was non-existent. Looked like a wing-back at right-back, plus 100 times worse.

Cristian Romero – 0 – Meant to be Tottenham’s best defender and has experience in a back four for Argentine but was all over the place today. So disappointed in him.

Eric Dier – 0 – Ran around like a headless chicken in that first 20 minutes. Newcastle players were ghosting past him like he wasn’t there.

Ivan Perisic – 0 – Nothing in attack and unreliable in defence. I have questioned whether he should even play LWB, let alone left-back.

Oliver Skipp – 2 – At least got stuck in a bit when we were playing awfully. Seems strange to compliment a player on looking like they’re trying when times are tough, but such is Tottenham.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 0 – Not sure where the steady and reliable Hojbjerg has gone. His first 20 minutes was among the worst I have seen in midfield.

Pape Matar Sarr – 1 – Looked like a fish out of water but should have been given the chance to stay on the pitch, with Hojbjerg coming off.

Dejan Kulusevski – 0 – Lazy when tracking back in defence and struggled to beat anyone going forward. Needs a hard reset this summer.

Harry Kane – 2 – A lovely solo goal. Good job.

Heung-min Son – 1 – A very quiet game.

Substitutes:

Davinson Sanchez – 3 – Took immense character to come off the bench after last week and was far from the worst defender.

Fraser Forster – 3 – Came on at half-time to replace Hugo Lloris.

Arnaut Danjuma – 3 – Should have started the match.

Richarlison – 3 – Came on for Son for the last 15 minutes.
