Tottenham Hotspur fell to a shocking 3-2 defeat against Southampton this evening, despite taking the lead with just 20 minutes left on the clock.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Hugo Lloris – 7 – Made a few really important saves but then looked all over the place when coming off his line. The good vs the bad this evening.
Emerson Royal – 4 – Offered very little going forward and got caught out with runs in behind too often at the back. Caught out with back post headers that cost Spurs goals.
Davinson Sanchez – 4 – Southampton seemed to be targeting Sanchez at times and the Colombian looked like a fish out of water. He was also guilty of handing Southampton free goals with his marking on the right.
Cristian Romero – 7.5 – Won the ball high up the pitch when he could, some really positive passes, and even scored and assisted, albeit both offside. The one shining light in defence, but he needs solidity around him to play on the front foot.
Ben Davies – 5 – A shocking error that directly led to Southampton’s goal when Davies tried to power up a clearance and missed the ball.
Sergio Reguilon – 6 – Really good attacking outlet down the left, but missed an absolute sitter in front of goal. In defence, he gave Southampton too many back post chances.
Harry Winks – 6 – Not at his best today. His passing was hit and miss and it all felt a bit safe at times when Spurs needed him to control the game.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 4 – Yes, he did very well to set up Tottenham’s opener, but his overall quality of passing this evening was shocking and his positioning wasn’t much better.
Lucas Moura – 8 – Started the game brightly with some trademark bursts through the lines and set Hojbjerg away beautifully for the goal. Then assisted the second really well.
Harry Kane – 7.5 – Kane was feeding off scraps in the first half but still created a golden chance for Reguilon. Always looked class on the ball, but didn’t get enough chances to work with.
Heung-min Son – 8 – Tottenham’s main counter-attacking outlet and deserved his goal. He was guilty of leaving a chance or two out there, but looked impressive in general.
Substitutes:
Rodrigo Bentancur – 7.5 – Came on and controlled the game really nicely with his passing, interceptions and driving runs.
Dejan Kulusevski – 5 – Kulusevski didn’t really add a lot and Spurs missed Moura when he went off.
Steven Bergwijn – N/A
