Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s bitterly disappointing loss against Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur are no longer top of the Premier League table as they conceded late on against Liverpool after missing golden chances of their own in the second half.

Hugo Lloris – 8 – Made some very nice stops throughout the game, always ensuring to push them away into safe areas. Nothing he could do about either goal.

Serge Aurier – 7.5 – Liverpool were able to get in a few times on their left side, but mainly via overlapping runs from Robertson. Aurier actually dealt with Mane very well.

Toby Alderweireld – 6 – Did a decent job but the defence always looked a little uncomfortable. Some strange marking at the corner that cost Spurs.

Eric Dier – 6 – Dier looked very comfortable when dealing with aerial crosses, a little less so when the ball was on the ground.

Ben Davies – 6.5 – With Salah tucking in, Davies didn’t have as much active work as Aurier. However, he didn’t do too much wrong when dealing with Trent and co.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 7 – Spurs were overrun in midfield and Hojbjerg struggled to impose himself on the game in his usual style. Improved a lot in the second half.

Moussa Sissoko – 6 – Marking Robertson seemed to be Sissoko’s main job, which is why he was on the right side. However, he let the left-back go a few times, leading to a few good Liverpool chances.

Giovani Lo Celso – 7.5 – Have to give him credit for the Son goal, Lo Celso carried the ball forward into a rare bit of space and played the perfect pass. Made up for his positioning for Liverpool’s opener.

Steven Bergwijn – 6 – Chasing shadows in the first half, Bergwijn missed two golden chances in the second half. His runs and intelligence were great but finishing left a lot to be desired.

Harry Kane – 6 – Kane was suffocated out of the game for large parts of the first half. What a miss from the front man in the second half too!

Heung-min Son – 8 – One attack, one shot, one goal. This Mourinho system only creates goals because of how clinical this man is in front of goal these days.

Substitutes:

Lucas Moura – 6 – Came on and looked lively in the second half.

Sergio Reguilon – N/A

Dele Alli – N/A
