Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s Carabao Cup Final defeat to Man City

Another year goes by without a trophy for Tottenham Hotspur as they were defeated in the Carabao Cup Final 1-0 by Man City this evening.

Let’s take a look at how the players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 8 – Consistently made some great stops to keep Man City at bay, at least giving Spurs a chance of doing something.

Serge Aurier – 4 – He managed to cut the silly fouls out of his game for 81 minutes before handing one in the worst position to Kevin De Bruyne.

Toby Alderweireld – 8 – An absolute rock at the back and should feel hard done by that he wasn’t on the winning side today.

Eric Dier – 7 – Dier’s defending was immense. Unfortunately, he struggled when bringing it out of defence on that left foot.

Sergio Reguilon – 4 – A bit of a liability at the back today and wasn’t potent enough when he marched forward. Went down too easy instead of getting stuck in.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 4 – Played in a more advanced role that didn’t really suit him. Got on the end of a great break and passed it out of play.

Harry Winks – 6 – Tottenham’s best central midfielder in terms of actually getting stuck in and passing it around in the second half. Unfortunately, he was still bested by City.

Giovani Lo Celso – 5 – Beyond a few bright sparks, he really struggled to get into the game. You have to wonder whether Ndombele should have been given the nod.

Lucas Moura – 6 – The only source of trouble for City in the first half. I wanted to see more of Moura at number 10 but he was taken off.

Harry Kane – 8 – Did what he could with scraps today. His quality on the ball is immense but unfortunately, he can’t assist himself.

Heung-min Son – 4 – Really poor today. His passing was all over the place, killing a number of promising breaks. An unfortunate day to have a bad game.

Substitutes:

Gareth Bale – 4 – Barely touched the ball.

Moussa Sissoko – 3 – Let his man go for City’s eventual goal.

Dele Alli – N/A

Steven Bergwijn – N/A
