Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s defeat to Leeds – One 9 rating

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a huge dent to their top-four hopes this afternoon with a 2-1 loss away to Leeds United in the Premier League.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 9 – Beyond one questionable punch, cannot fault his performance. Made an array of quality stops throughout the game.

Serge Aurier – 3 – Didn’t get in the game going forward and full of mistakes at the back. Got beaten down his flank for the first two Leeds goals. Needed to stop the crosses.

Toby Alderweireld – 5 – Reads the game well but struggles to keep up with play running back towards his own goal. Often half a yard out of position.

Eric Dier – 4 – Should have cleared the ball for the first goal and stood still while Bamford nipped in for the second goal. Poor performance. Played them on for the third.

Sergio Reguilon – 3 – All over the place today. Reguilon looked like a headless chicken. Let his man in behind all day and needed to do better for the first goal.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 5 – A good player but looks like a man who has started every Prem fixture. Not the same intensity we saw at the start of the season.

Giovani Lo Celso – 3 – Lo Celso didn’t do enough to win the midfield battle off the ball today. Also misplaced so many key passes that could have led to goals.

Dele Alli – 7 – The creative spark for Tottenham today. I do feel that you need two defensive-minded workhorses behind him to make up for Dele’s style though. Too slow on the ball at times in his own half though.

Heung-min Son – 7 – Great finish for his goal but struggled to get into the game consistently out on the left. Seemed more caught up tracking back.

Harry Kane – 6 – Great finish for the goal that wasn’t but Kane looked really isolated today and didn’t get into the game.

Gareth Bale – 5 – The sheer pace and power of Leeds really overwhelmed Bale today. Hasn’t got the legs he used to. Like Dele, if you play him, you need people to do his running.

Substitutes:

Erik Lamela – 4 – Did very little after coming on.

Lucas Moura – 4 – Gave away fouls and that was about it.

Tanguy Ndombele – 4 – Probably should have started.
