Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s much-needed win over West Brom

Tottenham Hotspur finally have another Premier League win under their belt after defeating West Brom 2-0 in the North London snow this afternoon.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 8 – Stepped up with a huge save in the first half when Spurs needed him. Would have been a very different story if that had gone in.

Serge Aurier – 8 – Played very well going forward. A few occasions in which he failed to track back, but that was part of the high-risk attacking game plan. Sad to see him go off injured.

Davinson Sanchez – 7.5 – A tidy performance from the Colombian central defender, although he was bullied a little in the air at times.

Toby Alderweireld – 8.5 – Very calm and collected at the back, often winning the ball back for Spurs before West Brom could even think about attacking.

Ben Davies – 8 – Much more ambitious today in terms of getting forward. Not as fast as Reguilon but more experienced and needs to use that to pick and choose his runs. Good stuff from the Welshman today.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 10 – My man of the match. Not only did he do the stuff you expect of him, but his passing was so positive today. That assist to Kane was far from simple and most defensive midfielders wouldn’t have even seen it.

Tanguy Ndombele – 7.5 – Some great moments and some occasions in which he lost the ball. He is a riskier choice in a holding role but definitely worth it in games such as this.

Erik Lamela – 9 – What a performance from Lamela. Finally offered Spurs that creator that have been missing these past weeks. He also gets stuck in for the full 90 minutes, even if that involves a lot of fouls and yellow cards. It sets the tone for the others.

Lucas Moura – 9 – Just like Lamela, Lucas came in and offered some much-needed direct pace and positivity. Some of his dribbles were incredible today! Deserved his impressive assist for Son’s goal.

Harry Kane – 9.5 – Coming in off the back of a two-week injury, Harry Kane was everywhere today. He picks a pocket, no matter where it is on the pitch, and tries to turn it into an attacking chance. Could have had a hat-trick today.

Heung-min Son – 9 – Much more like him today. Demanded the ball, carried it forward and got his deserved goal in the second half. Just seems to thrive when Kane is there with him these days.

Substitutes:

Matt Doherty – 6 – Came on after Aurier was forced off injured. Saw the game out okay.

Steven Bergwijn – 6 – Came on with 15 minutes to go but didn’t quite get up to the pace.

Dane Scarlett – N/A – Nice to see the youngster make his Premier League debut.
