Opinion: Pochettino is digging his own grave with a smile on his face

Tottenham Hotspur have been stalling and spluttering their way through the 2019/20 season, with just four wins from 15 games, a pathetic tally.

Spurs were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two opposition, their best chance for a trophy. They were humiliated at home by Bayern, who have since sacked their manager. And they currently lie in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

All of this from a side who played in the Champions League Final back in June, before breaking their transfer record in the summer.

The frustrating thing for me is that Pochettino seems to be digging his own grave and shows no signs of stopping any time soon.

The likes of Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose, and Serge Aurier have given the Argentine plenty of excuses to drop them, at least to the bench, yet he continues to start all three regularly.

There are clear figures out there who are not committed to wearing the Spurs shirt beyond this season, or who are simply past their best. However, Pochettino seems to be remaining loyal to those who seem only too happy to throw him under the bus.

Poch needs to phase out Eriksen for Lo Celso and Lamela. Drop Rose for Davies and Sessegnon. Start Ndombele every single game possible. Give Kane the permanent armband. Play Dele in his favourite position behind the striker. Use Moura more to build up his form. Drop Aurier out of the squad completely and give Juan Foyth a chance.

If he doesn’t change something soon, I fear that he is giving Levy no choice put to take the shovel out of his hand by force.
