Opinion: Pochettino must change the way he treats this star player or risk losing him

Tottenham Hotspur boss, Mauricio Pochettino, needs to change the way he treats Lucas Moura or risk losing the winger to another big club.

Unfortunately for him, Moura is one of those players who seems to consistently have a great impact when coming off the bench against tired opposition.

Eden Dzeko had the same problem back in his Man City days and once you earn that ‘Super Sub’ reputation, it can be hard to shift it.

However, I would argue that Moura has been one of Tottenham’s best players in the last year and the very best player when it comes to standing up in the big moments.

Few players seem to grasp a tough away match like Lucas Moura, with the Brazilian scoring away to City, Man United, Barcelona, a hat-trick against Ajax and more away from home in the past year or so.

I believe that Poch simply must hand Moura some more starts this season or risk the winger looking for first-team football elsewhere, especially after the Champions League final snub.

A front three of Son, Moura, and Kane simply has not been tested enough on match days.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Agree with the front three proposal. It should work well – Kane up the middle, Son left and Moura right, swapping and moving at will. Add in Dele floating about off Kane, with Gio Lo Celso/Eriksen/Lamela in front of Ndombele/Sissoko/Winks and that’s a formidable line-up, as good as anything around.
