Opinion: Pochettino must start handing this youngster minutes in case the worst happens

Tottenham Hotspur currently have just the two out-and-out strikers at the club, Harry Kane and academy prospect Troy Parrott.

Pochettino does have the likes of Heung Min Son, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela, and Giovani Lo Celso who have experience in covering as front men, but it is none of their first positions.

Unfortunately, Harry Kane has picked up a bit of a reputation for ankle ligament injuries in recent seasons, problems that have kept him out for months on ends.

If the worst happens again, Spurs must be prepared to deal with the circumstances and I believe the first step towards that is handing Parrott first-team minutes.

Spurs will want the teenager to be fit and sharp and used to games at the top if they do need to throw him into first-team matches further down the line.

I also don’t feel as if this is a forced move either, as Parrott looked comfortable alongside Kane and Son in pre-season and has all the talent to be a success in the Prem.

Let’s start his career early and see what he has in his locker. I have a feeling Spurs would not regret it.
