Opinion: Some Spurs fans are getting too carried away with Hojbjerg – New signing bias

Tottenham Hotspur fans have now seen what Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg can offer on the pitch, as well as how Jose Mourinho may look to utilise him in the squad.

The Special One actually lined the Denmark international up alongside Harry Winks in the friendly against Ipswich Town last week, showing how the two can work and press together.

Hojbjerg earned rave reviews from many Spurs fans on Twitter and I even saw compilation videos of his performance against the League One side.

In my opinion, some of these fans are hyping the midfielder up way too much, way too quickly. You can’t make a judgement based on 60 minutes in a pre-season friendly against a team two leagues beneath Spurs.

Not only this, but people were raving about a performance that Winks puts in almost every single week. Yet when he does it, he gets slated for his safe recycling of possession and sideways passes.

It definitely seems like a case of new signing bias to me, where every two-yard sideways pass is hailed as an incredible piece of play.

The midfielder performed well against Ipswich and Reading, but we must remember that these are clubs from lower leagues and it is still just pre-season.

Let’s just leave Hojbjerg alone, let him settle, and see what he can really do once the competitive seasons starts next month. I for one think he could be great, but let’s not get carried away.
