Opinion: Son is being given a free role that sees him shine even with Kane in the team

Heung Min Son has always seemingly had one problem at Spurs, he cannot consistently perform in the same team as Harry Kane.

It always seems as if the South Korean scores the majority of his goals and has his best games when Kane is rested or injured.

I believe this is because, with Harry in the XI, Son is often pushed out far wider than he would like to accommodate the England captain.

However, it looks to me that Pochettino is looking to solve that issue this season for Sonny and Kane.

I believe that Son has been given more of a free role off that left flank when Spurs are in possession, then slotting back in defensively when the team lose out.

This reminds me of the role Gareth Bale was given in his last couple of seasons for Spurs, where he could drift around the pitch whenever he wanted, making it near-impossible to mark him.

The number of times Son picked the ball up in different positions against Palace was frightening, from left-wing, right-wing, striker, attacking midfielder, and more.

I think this could be the key to Poch finally getting the best out of Son and Kane as a partnership, rather than individual goal scorers.
