Opinion: Spurs player ratings from the embarassing defeat to NS Mura

Tottenham Hotspur fell to an embarassing 2-1 defeat against NS Mura this evening in the Europa Conference League, ending any hopes of finishing at the top of Group G.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Pierluigi Gollini – 4 – Didn’t exactly fill me with confidence this evening, whether it was being rooted to the spot from Mura shots or looking unconvincing with crosses. One nice moment when he came off his line and headed away.

Matt Doherty – 4 – We had ten minutes or so of Doherty back at RWB and looking to feel his way into the game, then the red card put him into a flat back four. Did okay getting forward but crossing wasn’t too great.

Japhet Tanganga – 4 – Struggled at times when pushed out to the left and the Mura players seemed to be targeting that side. Better in the second half at right-back.

Joe Rodon – 5 – The best defender on the pitch for Spurs in the first half. Although that does not say much, his performance could be the most convincing audition to replace Romero out of him and Davinson Sanchez.

Davinson Sanchez – 2 – Managed to get spun by the simplest piece of skill for Mura’s goal, which proved to be the beginning of the end for Spurs. Somehow got done by the exact same move twice more in the second-half, including the last-minute goal.

Ryan Sessegnon – 1 – I literally cannot give him anything else. A silly first yellow to pick up for a needless challenge, then an even worse second yellow. Absolutely brainless.

Oliver Skipp – 5 – Can’t say I was too upset with his performance. He was neat and tidy and always looked for a positive pass. He just isn’t the player to unlock a defence, which Spurs needed.

Tanguy Ndombele – 4 – The more I watch him, the more I feel he is great in a thriving XI but really struggles to step up and be the game changer in a struggling XI.

Dele Alli – 3 – Not good enough on the ball. Everything was so slow and he is guilty of overplaying too often. Not the audition he would have been hoping for under Conte.

Bryan Gil – 4 – So wasteful on the ball this evening. As I always say, he just looks like a very raw talent and Spurs cannot carry a raw talent at the moment. Missed a good chance in the first half too. His day will come, but not today.

Harry Kane – 6 – For every nice pass or close shot there was a loose ball, heavy touch, or period of overplaying w here he gave the ball away. Took his goal nicely but I expect more from him in these games.

Substitutes:

Lucas Moura – 5 – Came on and at least gave Spurs a chance with his assist.

Heung-min Son – 4 – Largely annoymous after coming off the bench.

Eric Dier – 4 – Definitely looked more solid than the first-half players, but slipped in the build-up to Mura’s late winner.

Ben Davies – 3 – Gave the ball away for the late winner.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 4 – Didn’t make a whole lot of difference off the bench but covered lots of ground, to be fair.
