Opinion – Spurs should sell these two central midfielders this summer

Tottenham Hotspur will likely have an active summer transfer window this season, after going 15 months without a signing.

Spurs did sell Mousa Dembele in the January window though, so central midfield should be a position they look to strengthen this summer.

Dembele was a unique and quality player, and was a regular under Pochettino for the five years the Argentine has been in charge.

You simply cannot let a player like that go without bringing in a top-notch long-term replacement, who, in my eyes, should be Tanguy Ndombele.

However, I would not stop there with Spurs’ central midfield situation, as I would also be looking to cash in on both Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama.

I feel that both have dipped significantly from their peak Spurs performances a couple of seasons ago, and I am not confident that they will reach those levels again. Both look half a yard slower and give the ball away far too often for my liking.

I would promote both Luke Amos and Oliver Skipp to bigger roles in the club, while bringing in another one or two squad players to fill the gaps.

My first team starters would rotate between Winks, Sissoko, and Ndombele, with Skipp, Amos, and these new squad players filling the gaps.

It is time for Pochettino to be ruthless, cut out the dead wood, and build a quality squad from top to bottom.
