Opinion: The best and worst case scenarios for Tottenham in the FA Cup third round draw

Tottenham Hotspur begin their 2019/20 FA Cup journey this evening, with the live third round draw taking place on BBC Two from 19:00.

It has been a long old wait for a trophy in North London for Spurs, with their last piece of silverware coming in the Carling Cup final against Chelsea way back in 2008.

Spurs reached two finals under Mauricio Pochettino, a League Cup Final and the 2019 Champions League Final, but finished as runners-up both times.

In Jose Mourinho, Spurs not only have a manager who has won trophies at every club he has ever been at, but he also has an FA Cup winners medal in his locker.

While Colchester United proved that any team can turn up and beat one ofthe big boys, we wanted to take a look at the best and worst-case scenarios for Spurs on paper.

Best case scenario –

I would say that a home tie against non-league AFC Fylde would be the very best draw for Spurs, with other non-league teams including Boston United, Eastleigh, Hartlepool United, and Solihull Moors, although the latter have to play Rotherham first tonight.

Worst case scenario –

Considering Spurs will likely be looking to win the FA Cup this year, the last thing they will want is a third-round away draw against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Man United, or Leicester.
