Opinion: The five Championship players Spurs need to look at this summer

Tottenham Hotspur decided to dip into the Championship last summer on more than one occasion when they secured the signatures of both Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke.

However, I would argue that the Lilywhites should be on the lookout for yet more bargains this year. With the current inflation in transfer values, finding the diamonds in the rough is more important than ever.

Here are the five Championship stars I believe that Spurs should be keeping an eye on:

Eberechi Eze

The QPR attacker would be my top priority in terms of Championship talent. He has enjoyed a fantastic season and was even linked to Spurs recently. The Sun claimed that he could be available for £20m, which I would view as a bargain. Eze already has 12 goals and eight assists this season in 37 Championship matches (TransferMarkt).

Nathan Ferguson

Perhaps the biggest no-brainer deal on this list, 19-year-old Ferguson is out of contract in the summer, meaning that Spurs could snap him up for free. The young right-back is not yet ready to be first-choice, but he would make an excellent understudy. He has played 20 times for West Brom this season (Wikipedia).

Jude Bellingham –

There will likely be plenty of big clubs moving for this lad in the summer, but Spurs should at least be monitoring the situation. The central midfielder is just 16-years-old but has already played 35 games for the Birmingham first-team this season, scoring four goals in the process (Wikipedia). Definitely a big talent for the future.

Kalvin Phillips –

One of the most well-known players within the Championship at the minute, the 24-year-old Kalvin Phillips is certainly one to watch. Breaking through when he was just 18, Phillips has already played across six seasons and 173 games for Leeds United (Wikipedia). He is older than others on this list, but he has also arguably been one of the best Championship players over the past two seasons.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

Mitrovic seems as if he has been around for a long time, but the striker is still only 25-years-old. He was recently linked with a move to Tottenham (90min) and although it never came to fruition, he could still represent a sensible choice as a Harry Kane back up. He is currently to top scorer in the Championship this season, netting 23 goals in 34 games (Wikipedia).
