Opinion: The five changes Mourinho must make to turn things around this season

Things are not going Tottenham or Jose Mourinho’s way at the moment, with the club dropping points to Southampton, Norwich, and Chelsea lately. They also drew to Championship side Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

So, let’s look at what Mourinho should change this month to turn things around:

1) Davinson Sanchez has to start every game from now on

Despite not being the most reliable centre back, he the only centre back we have that has good pace. He has not started the past three games and our defence has looked shocking in all three! Hopefully, Jose was just showing Levy lacking in quality both Dier and Jan have been in order to get the money for a replacement.

2) Lo Celso has to start all games instead of Eriksen

I still find it confusing that Lo Celso doesn’t start games. When he is introduced, he seems to make a difference and the only player who can string passes together in order to get some service to the attackers. He is also staying at the club, so should be given the chance to play himself into some consistent form. If we need Eriksen, bring him on from the bench.

3) Buy a new left-back

Spurs have been linked with dozens upon dozens of players this window already. However, worryingly there doesn’t seem to be too many left-backs linked with the club. Rose seems determined to leave at the end of his contract and I am not sure if Sessegnon is ready as a left-back replacement. We don’t need another situation like Eriksen, Mourinho needs to be proactive and get this situation sorted.

4) Manage Lamela’s game time appropriately

What Lamela lacks in talent, he makes up for it with passion, an emotion that seems to be rare in the first team at the moment. He needs to get as much time on the pitch as he can as he could inspire the others. I would start him when possible so that his example can improve the performances of those around him.

5) Bring in a proper replacement for Kane

Every year Kane seems to get an injury that keeps him out for a couple of months, before taking a little while to get going again. This is a huge chunk of the season without a recognised striker. A real replacement is needed. While Son is able to do this job, he is much better on the wing. Kane is not a machine and having a reliable back up would surely mean that we would be able to win early cup games rather than having to make do with replays.
