Tottenham have had a problem at right-back for a number of years. You could argue that the club never really replaced Kyle Walker after Kieran Trippier suffered a significant fall from grace last season.
I honestly believe that Daneil Levy and Jose Mourinho will look to invest in a young new right-back in the summer, with Aurier to be sold.
The Ivorian has improved dramatically under Mourinho this season, mainly occupying a wing-back role. However, when being pushed back into a flat four in defence, Aurier’s shortcomings shine through.
The man cannot defend and his positioning is woeful. While he is a real threat going forward, he is too much of a liability when looking to protect his own goal.
At the moment, especially under Mourinho, I think that Spurs need a right-back who defends above all else. That is why I would be playing Tanganga there every game.
This lad makes defending look effortless, keeping things very simple and rarely giving his man the time of day.
However, he also has a blistering turn of speed and is more than capable of getting up and down the wing. While I see his long-term future at centre-back, I believe he is the best defensive option at right-back.
