Opinion: The Spurs XI I want to see start against Liverpool in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur take on Liverpool at home in the Premier League next, as one of the worst defences in the league meets the undefeated leaders.

When thinking of an XI I would like to see Mourinho try against the Reds, I came up with something very different, but perhaps that is what Spurs need at the moment.

Due to injuries at full-back and central midfield, there is not a lot to work with at the moment, but here it goes…

I have selected Gazzaniga in goal, before opting for a back five, which I think is needed to account for Liverpool’s attacking wingbacks.

Sessegnon and Aurier can deal with Alexander-Arnold and Robertson on the flanks, while I have gone for Spurs’ fastest three central defenders in Sanchez, Foyth, and Alderweireld in an attempt to counter the pace of Mane and Salah.

With Sissoko and Ndombele injured, Winks is partnered in midfield by Skipp to put a huge emphasis on effort, passion, and retaining the ball above all else.

Up front, we have Heung Min Son leading the line, with Lucas and Lamela providing high pressure either side, again going for the players who have good ball carrying skills and usually put in maximum effort.
