Opinion: The stat that shows exactly why Lo Celso should take Eriksen’s spot in the team

Tottenham Hotspur had numerous poor performers against Liverpool yesterday in the Premier League, but Eriksen was arguably the worst of the lot.

Not only did Eriksen fail to make any impact moving forward, he also completely botched his job at defending the marauding Andy Robertson.

The Great Dane was caught too narrow time and time again, and lacked the pace needed to keep up with the Scotsman, or the defensive qualities to keep him from getting to the byline.

Heung Min Son on the other side also struggled to defend against Trent Alexander-Arnold, but he still had the pace and quality to offer something going the other way, setting up the Kane goal and hitting the bar himself.

Eriksen attempted just 27 passes all game for Tottenham, with only 16 of them actually finding their target (WhoScored).

Meanwhile, late substitute Giovani Lo Celso managed fives passes in a few minutes, all of which found a Spurs player.

So, Eriksen was only able to make 11 more successful passes that Lo Celso, despite the Dane starting at Anfield.

In my view, it is time to swap the roles these two players have at the club and drop Eriksen once and for all.
