Opinion: The Tottenham XI we want to see Mourinho start against Everton

Tottenham Hotspur take on Everton in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2020/21 campaign this weekend.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping to pick up where he and his side left off at the end of the last season, as the finished the campaign unbeaten in their final six games.

We wanted to take a look at our dream Tottenham XI ahead of the big weekend clash:

Hugo Lloris simply must start between the sticks for Tottenham and it would seem foolish to change the now tried-and-tested central three of Ben Davies, Eric Dier, and Toby Alderweireld.

However, we would like to see Spurs invest in a left-footed and mobile central defender to provide some much-needed competition for Davies.

Although he has only just joined up with the squad and Serge Aurier may be the more sensible choice, we want to see Matt Doherty named as the starting right-wing-back.

Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg is a must-start in the defensive midfield position, but we would like to see some more adventurous names alongside him.

With Winks recovering from the injury that forced him to pull out of the England squad, we want to see Dele and Ndombele line up ahead of Hojbjerg. Each could take it in turns dropping in to defend and getting forward to support the striker.

Unfortunately, it seems as if Giovani Lo Celso is nowhere to be seen at the moment.

Heung-min Son and Steven Bergwijn should then be named in deeper left and right midfield roles, with the former having enjoyed a great pre-season and the latter impressing on international duty with the Netherlands.

Harry Kane leads the line despite looking tired on England duty, with Lucas Moura on the bench to replace him at the 60-minute mark.
