Opinion: This out-of-favour player should start against Liverpool – He deserves it

Tottenham Hotspur may have breezed past Red Star Belgrade this week in the Champions League, but many expected that kind of result.

The real test will come this weekend as Spurs face a trip to the league leaders, Liverpool, as they look to take revenge on the Champions League Final defeat.

One man who was left out that night in Madrid, despite his semi-final heroics, was Lucas Moura. However, I would argue that he deserves his late reward this weekend.

Moura has been out-of-favour in terms of regular starts so far this season, but I see Liverpool away as the perfect fixture for the little Brazilian.

Not only does he love big games, but he also thrives in an open match where there is space in behind for him to attack.

I would argue that any attempt to turn up and defend their way to a draw or even a win will result in Spurs getting battered. Their defence simply is not up to it right now.

Therefore, I would like to see Harry Kane up top, with Heung Min Son and Lucas Moura either side of him, matching Liverpool’s front three formation.

The only way Spurs will get something out of this game is by facing the Reds head on.
