Opinion: Three players who still managed to shine in a disappointing display

Tottenham Hotspur fans endured yet another sub-par performance from their side today as they scraped a 1-1 draw against Watford.

The Hornets are currently bottom of the league and Spurs played at home, but even that could not kick-start a change in form for the Lilywhites.

However, despite the awful result, I still believe that these three players managed to impress at the new stadium.

Lucas Moura –

Unfortunately for Lucas Moura, Tottenham’s early defensive mistake set the tone for his match against Watford. Moura is at his best when there is space to run into and he can take players on one-on-one. However, as soon as the Hornets scored early, then shut up shop and sat with ten or eleven men behind the ball. Having said that, the Brazilian still showed some bright sparks and some nifty footwork in the final third. I just wish he’d have been granted a little more space.

Heung Min Son –

Came on at half-time and instantly looked to be one of Tottenham’s most impressive players. Son always has such a positive way of playing, always isolating defenders when he can and taking them on, as well as working the space for shots, crosses, and creative passes. It’s a shame the South Korean could only manage 45 minutes.

Erik Lamela –

Spurs were missing that creative playmaker today. There was no Eriksen in the squad and Lo Celso is not yet back fit. Dele Alli is also far from his best form, so Lamela made all the difference when he came on. I would go as far to say that he created more chances in 30 minutes than most Spurs players did in the entire match.
