Opinion: Tottenham lit the spark of a revival but a big week is needed to see it roar

Tottenham Hotspur lit the spark that could eventually turn into a revival last night as they beat Red Star Belgrade 5-0 in the Champions League, but there is a long way to go.

Spurs fans, and certainly the players, cannot get carried away with this impressive win against lesser opposition, no matter how much it was needed.

Many thought that the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace was a turning point in Tottenham’s poor form, or the hard-fought win against Southampton, but neither turned out to be true.

Spurs need to string together some positive results without capitulating in between if they are going to challenge for anything this season.

Perhaps having two tough away fixtures in the Premier League is just the challenge Tottenham need to get themselves back on track after securing just four wins in 13 this season.

First up is Liverpool away, followed by another Merseyside trip to Everton. I want to see three points from these two games at least, as anyone would struggle to get anything at Anfield at the moment.

However, if Spurs do lose to Liverpool, I at least want them to put up a fight and give the Reds a good game. If they play to their potential, they may even be able to get a result.

Fingers crossed this is the start of a revival for Poch and his men, but we won’t know until these next two games have been played.
