Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from 3-1 pre-season win over MK Dons

Tottenham Hotspur recorded another pre-season win this evening against MK Dons, with returning faces and goals for both Son and Dele.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Alfie Whiteman – 7 – Late coming off his line and gave away a sloppy penalty… then saved it! Not sure what that does for his rating. Great save on the stroke of half-time. Looks a little uncomfortable coming off his line to claim the ball.

Matt Doherty – 6 – First game back and his fitness looks decent. Did his defensive job while also getting forward every now and then.

Cameron Carter-Vickers – 7 – Caught out once or twice over the top but another steady performance. Surely someone has to come in and buy him this summer. Almost grabbed himself a goal.

Japhet Tanganga – 7.5 – Back in the starting XI and he looked very impressive. Dominant in the air, fast across the turf, and covered for Reguilon pretty well.

Sergio Reguilon – 7 – Left a bit to be desired positionally at the back but got forward well and should have got on the scoresheet.

Oliver Skipp – 7.5 – A bundle of energy in the middle of the pitch. Not only tough in the tackle but also so positive in his passing. Always gets his head up and passes between the lines. Another great cross-field ping.

Nile John – 7 – Arguably the most impressive youngster of pre-season, hence why he is still in the team. A little quiet today amongst the senior first-teamers, but worked so hard.

Dele Alli – 8.5 – Dropped deep and dictated play for much of his time on the pitch, while also following the ball and arriving late to get into attacking positions. Threaded some lovely balls in behind for the runners. Deserved his goal. How did he not score that chance?

Steven Bergwijn – 8 – Looks so much more confident. His runs in behind, taking people on 1 v 1, some great crosses into the box. Such good signs from Stevie. Missed a one-on-one that he deserved to score.

Heung-min Son – 8.5 – Blazed one over and then finished cooly before his goal was ruled offside. Fortunately, his next one just before half-time was onside and an equally lovely finish. Very selfish when the square was on for Bergwijn to tap it in, less so for Dele.

Lucas Moura – 9 – Did most of his first-half work off the ball but came up with a great assist for Sonny just before the break. Unbelievable work for the second goal as he set Son in behind. Deserved his goal so much! My MOTM by a mile.

Substitutes:

Ben Davies – 6 – Good to have another first-team player back, a typically steady showing from Mr Steady himself.

Maksim Paskotsi – 6.5 – Has looked consistently impressive this pre-season despite being out of position. Made some nice runs and worked hard defensively.

Dane Scarlett – 5.5 – A very willing runner, as always. Looks like there are goals in him if he got a run of games under his belt.

Tobi Omole – 5 – Didn’t see much of the ball but defender well in a back five.

Harvey White – N/A

Jack Clarke – N/A

Troy Parrott – N/A

Malachi Fagan-Walcott – N/A
