Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the 1-0 CL defeat to AC Milan

Tottenham Hotspur failed to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat to Leicester City this evening as they fell 1-0 at the San Siro against AC Milan.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Fraser Forster – 6 – Made a great double save early on only to see the ball end up in the back of the net anyway. Could have been more confident claiming a couple of crossed but did his job well this evening.

Emerson Royal – 6 – Seems to have improved his passing game a lot down that right channel, but still didn’t get enough crosses into the box. A solid option in defensive games.

Cristian Romero – 4 – Got beaten a fair few times down the right side and was outjumped in the build-up to the goal. Not his usual aggressive self, apart from that awful studded challenge.

Eric Dier – 4 – Picked up a yellow that will see him miss the second leg. Just doesn’t command or organise that back three well enough when the ball is delivered into the box and it causes Spurs problems. Should have closed down Hernandez faster too.

Clement Lenglet – 5 – You sacrifice some defensive ability for his passing out from the back but even that was missing this evening. Had a great chance to pull the ball back in the box for Son to tap home but failed to get his head up.

Ivan Perisic – 4 – Looks like an ageing player who can’t play 90 minutes two or three times a week, because that’s what he is. He didn’t have the legs to pose a consistent threat going forward or track back, leaving him in no man’s land a lot of the time.

Oliver Skipp – 7 – Came in and did a job for Spurs considering his lack of game time. Was strong in the tackle and confident with the ball at his feet. Lacked a bit of composure when passing under pressure.

Pape Matar Sarr – 7 – I thought he was excellent this evening, especially given his age. He really got stuck in and showed urgency, as well as a willingness to get forward. Covers a lot of ground with those long legs of his. I look forward to seeing him get more minutes.

Dejan Kulusevski – 4 – Just has not been at it for the last month. Struggled to beat his man today and lacked quality on his trusty left foot even when given the chance.

Harry Kane – 5 – Barely got a kick. A few nice moments of hold up play but Harry will be gutted that his teammates couldn’t make him a couple of chances against what has been a very leaky AC Milan back line.

Heung-min Son – 4 – Once again, just so far short of his best. That killer instinct to beat a man and have a pop at goal has vanished for the moment. Should have come off sooner for Richarlison or Danjuma really.

Subs:

Richarlison – 6 – Had a positive impact off the bench by really getting stuck in up front, especially that touch and lay-off for Sarr at the end.

Ben Davies – 3 – Shocking cameo.

Arnaut Danjuma – N/A
