Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur are out of the Carabao Cup following a 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea, which made it 3-0 on aggregate across the semi-final tie.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Pierluigi Gollini – 5 – A few nice saves to mention but then let himself down when coming off his line for Chelsea’s opener. A nervy touch or two with his feet at the back too.

Emerson Royal – 4 – Seems to lack the attacking instinct needed to play RWB. Had a great chance to cross to Doherty but didn’t look up. Delivery and 1v1 attacking was poor.

Japhet Tanganga – 4 – Let his man go from the corner for the second time in a week and his wretched run of form continues. Gave the ball away far too often too.

Davinson Sanchez – 5 – Looks out of his depth in the central sweeper role. For every good bit of defending he does, there is a loose pass or a big mistake.

Ben Davies – 5 – An uncharacteristically poor game from Davies in a back three. He got bullied by Lukaku and Werner, giving away two big chances directly from errors.

Matt Doherty – 5 – The inverted left-wing-back has not worked this past two weeks. His crossing was below par as it was mainly on his weak foot.

Harry Winks – 6.5 – One of the only players to keep pressing and working really hard. His long-range passing was a little hit and miss though – should have played Kane through.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6 – Was decent on the ball at times and made some good runs forward, including the one that led to the pre-VAR penalty. Outplayed by Chelsea midfield.

Giovani Lo Celso – 5 – Misplaced his passes all over the pitch and gave away too many silly fouls. Had the odd nice moment but they were way too few and far between.

Lucas Moura – 6 – A little isolated up top with Harry Kane so he tried to drop deep and collect the ball. A couple of nice runs but they lacked the necessary final ball.

Harry Kane – 6 – Seems a yard short of his normal self. That shot is coming a second too slow. The touch is an inch too heavy. Spurs are not seeing peak Kane at the moment. Although, he was a little unlucky with his narrow offside goal.

Substitutes:

Ryan Sessegnon – 6 – Offered much more on the left than Doherty.

Bryan Gil – 5.5 – Got on the ball a lot but didn’t really managed to create much.

Oliver Skipp – N/A
