Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the 1-0 defeat to Wolves

Tottenham Hotspur followed up on their shocking FA Cup exit against Sheffield United with yet another 1-0 defeat this afternoon, this time at the hands of Wolves.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Fraser Forster – 4 – Made some decent stops but you can’t be parrying a simple save back into the centre of the box, which is what led to Wolves’ goal. Seems to make a lot of saves but not always pushing them away as he should.

Pedro Porro – 6 – Much better today, both defensively and offensively. Rattled the crossbar with a free kick and had a couple of other decent shooting chances. You get a sense that he will feel his way into the team over the next year.

Cristian Romero – 7 – Tottenham’s best defender. He often goes on the prowl and covers across the left side of defence when he smells danger too, which is perhaps an insight into the faith Spurs have in their other centre-backs. A commanding performance and he needs better colleagues.

Clement Lenglet – 3 – So bad. His strength is meant to be passing out from the back, yet he gave the ball away in dangerous areas on multiple occasions. Also looked far from convincing in the physical battles around the box. Not a great sign ahead of the AC Milan match.

Ben Davies – 5 – Not an awful performance but didn’t really add anything either. Perhaps strange to see him move back to LCB after two really great games out wide. No matter how solid he can be, you can’t help but feel Spurs need a Romero-level player on the left.

Ivan Perisic – 4 – Continued his average form. A lot of overhit crosses beyond the back post and wasted a good headed chance that he should have pulled back across the box to Harry Kane. Seems to be struggling with the physical side of the game at his age.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 5 – Nothing too much to moan about but Hojbjerg has always looked better next to a more creative player like Bentancur. He struggles to progress the ball and get involved as much in the final third without Rodrigo.

Oliver Skipp – 5.5 – Broke up play and passed the ball around well enough, but obviously he can’t replace the creativity of Bentancur, which Spurs miss a lot in these types of games.

Dejan Kulusevski – 5 – Seems to have lost his mojo since the World Cup restart. Had a nice curling shot that Sa tipped around the post, but struggled to maintain a constant level of threat to the Wolves back line. He is a far cry from the Kulusevski of last season at the moment.

Harry Kane – 5 – Was barely in the game, which wasn’t exactly his fault. Tottenham created very little for him throughout the 90 minutes, which has been a problem of late. Had a couple of half chances but was feeding off scraps today.

Heung-min Son – 4 – Made some great runs and got into some amazing positions today, but the confidence has vanished. Last season, he would have smashed a couple home. This season, he keeps cutting back or delaying enough for the defenders to catch up.

Substitutes:

Lucas Moura – 4 – Made a nice pass into Kane to make a chance. Was subbed on too late and a lot of people wanted to see Danjuma given a chance too.

Richarlison – N/A – Only given five minutes at the end. Why?!
