Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur continued their unbeaten run in the Premier League with a 2-0 away win over Nottingham Forest this evening.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 6 – Didn’t really have many saves to make, but did his job when called upon. Some of his distribution was wide of the mark today – too many long balls up to Son and Kane that they had no chance of winning.

Emerson Royal – 7 – Emerson looked solid defensively and kickstarted a few breaks by winning the ball back, but he just lacks that full package you need from a wing-back in the final third. A very good player and played very well, but limited in the attacking third.

Davinson Sanchez – 8 – I think he was Tottenham’s best defender today. Everything he did was confident and solid. He left a bit to be desired on the ball in the first half but was near-perfect in the second with everything he did.

Eric Dier – 7 – Didn’t know whether to stick or twist at times today. Dier won a few commanding headers in the centre of the pitch, but also got caught out on a few occasions when he got his timing wrong. Still showcased some good defending of his own box.

Ben Davies – 7 – Davies showcased some really nice defending today, covering for Perisic when he went forward, while also doing some good last-ditch work. Similar to Sanchez, he struggled to break the lines on the ball with Nottingham’s press.

Ivan Perisic – 7.5 – When Perisic does get into the final third, he always looks dangerous. Spurs’ problem today was getting him there as Neco Williams pushed him back into more of a left-back role. But he looked very impressive all around the pitch.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 8 – Often overrun in the centre of midfield but Hojbjerg got through so much work today and picked out a few really nice passes between the lines. Often doesn’t get the credit he deserves but gave everything today, as usual.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 7 – Spurs’ midfield was always one step behind because they were outnumbered in the first half. But Bentancur will run all day for you and looks after the ball really nicely once he does win it. It was a graft more than a masterclass today.

Dejan Kulusevski – 7.5 – Really nice assist for Kane’s opener that showed great awareness. Kulusevski was quiet for large parts of the first half, but burst into life in the second 45 and ran the show from the right. Fantastic all-round play.

Heung-min Son – 6 – Once again, the South Korean didn’t look himself today. He played much of the game as a left-midfielder as Spurs were pushed back so far and struggled to have too much influence in the final third.

Harry Kane – 8.5 – Took his two goals really well, and should have had three or four today. Such is the standards of Harry Kane, he’ll have nightmares about the penalty miss even with his brace tonight. His second-half performance was incredible today.

Substitutes:

Richarlison – 7 – Came on and made the difference, adding more energy with fresh legs and setting up Harry Kane’s crucial second goal.

Sessegnon – 6.5 – Added much-needed energy down the left once Perisic got tired, but he should have picked Kane out with a simple pass just before the second goal.

Bissouma – N/A – Always looks solid in the middle of the park and can’t be far off a start.

Spence – N/A – Great to see him earn a few minutes and he looked really bright.
