Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the 2-2 draw with Man United

Tottenham Hotspur battled back to rescue a point at home to Manchester United this evening in North London, despite going two goals down in the first half.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Fraser Forster – 8 – A couple of misplaced kicks here and there, but Forster stepped up with a number of key saves to deny Rashford and keep Spurs in the match. A fine performance between the sticks.

Pedro Porro – 7 – His goal rescues him from a much lower score. He did incredibly well to volley the ball into the top corner to get Spurs back in the game and looked dangerous in the second 45. However, his defending in the first half was woeful to watch at times.

Cristian Romero – 6 – Has been regarded as Tottenham’s best defender for a long while but Romero has gone off the boil recently, as shown by the failure to close down the angle for Sancho’s goal. Different animal in the second half though as he showed the real Romero.

Eric Dier – 4 – Just did not work today. Mason had clearly asked him to press high as he did against Man City, but Dier got caught in no-man’s land so often and didn’t have the pace to recover. The defending for Rashford’s goal was amateur and he also missed a sitter of a header.

Clement Lenglet – 5 – Spurs were defensively poor once again in the first half and Lenglet was guilty of giving the ball away on multiple occasions. However, he at least offered more balance to the back three and his passing game in the second half was class.

Ivan Perisic – 6 – The story of his season really. Looked a real danger going forward in the second half and had the beating of Wan-Bissaka, which isn’t easy. However, he was a liability on and off the ball in the first half, when his defensive work and stamina really let him down.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 4 – Really not at his best at the moment. All the composure has vanished from his game and has been replaced with aimless hooks over the top. His positioning has also been all over the place. Performs much better with a creative spark next to him.

Oliver Skipp – 8 – If Bentancur returned tomorrow, you would pick Skipp to partner him. He covered every blade of grass this evening and really got stuck into those challenges. All Spurs fans want to see at the moment is some fight, and Skipp was full of it.

Heung-min Son – 7 – Scored the goal to earn Spurs a point, so we have to give him credit. However, he did miss a big chance before that and didn’t look quite at his dangerous best in the final third today.

Richarlison – 6.5 – The search for a goal continues, but I thought Richarlison showed a lot of fight and willingness to make runs when he was on the pitch. His drought is not from a lack of trying, that’s for sure.

Harry Kane – 8.5 – The MOTM for Spurs. In the second half, Kane absolutely ran the show, similar to his matches against Man City over the years. He dropped deep and picked out Son, Kulusevski, and Danjuma for fun. And that assist for the equaliser was spot on.

Substitutes:

Dejan Kulusevski – 6 – Looked much more like himself out there during that 30-minute cameo.

Danjuma – 6 – A willing runner towards the end of the game.

Ben Davies – 5 – Good to see him back from injury.

Japhet Tanganga – N/A
