Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the 3-1 win over Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur edged back into the top four this afternoon with a win over Leicester City in North London. Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 8 – Made a crucial fingertip save onto the post in the first half. Had he not made that, it could have been a very different story for Spurs. Also saved very smartly from Iheanacho towards the end, even if the striker did eventually score late.

Emerson Royal – 7 – Some good work defensively, particularly in the air when defending crosses. On the ball, he struggled in the first half but seemed to grow in confidence after Spurs went 2-0 up and looked far more progressive.

Cristian Romero – 9.5 – This man was nothing short of immense today. Winning challenges on the front foot and kickstarting attacks for fun. For Tottenham’s second, he won back-to-back challenges to start the move. Spurs need to build around him.

Eric Dier – 7.5 – Gave away some silly fouls but at least he was being aggressive and getting stuck in. Spurs have been too passive of late. On the ball and in the air he was also very reliable.

Ben Davies – 7 – Almost cost Spurs in the first half when his loose touch gave Leicester possession in the box, only for Romero to dig him out of a hole. However, Davies did offer a lot going the other way on the underlap.

Ryan Sessegnon – 7.5 – Stood firm and did a job defensively today as Leicester targeted that side. However, he still managed to get forward a lot more than Emerson and delivered some good crosses.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 7.5 – A little off his normal passing game today. Bentancur always goes for the splitting passes to get Spurs on the front foot, so it’s very noticeable when they don’t come off. Still battled hard in the engine room though and offered a lot.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 8.5 – His best performance in weeks. Hojbjerg was everywhere! The number of times he turned over possession was amazing, and he actually used the ball very positively. He did get a couple of nosebleeds in the final third though.

Lucas Moura – 6 – Unfortunately, Lucas just looked off the pace today. Perhaps the downside of Conte rarely giving anyone outside the starting XI regular minutes, when he needs them, they don’t have full match sharpness.

Heung-min Son – 9.5 – Son is improving in that new number ten role with every passing week. Some of his hold up play and flicks around the corner were superb today, plus the two goals and assist on top of that! What a goal that last one was too!

Harry Kane – 7.5 – Credit to Kane for the well-taken header… however, he was far from his best today. He had so much time and space out there but the ball just wouldn’t seem to sit still for him. Hopefully, he is saving his best for Liverpool and Arsenal.

Substitutes:

Dejan Kulusevski – 8 – What a player this guy is. Given half an hour off the bench, he was arguably Tottenham’s best creative/attacking outlet and even grabbed two assists off the bench. Great stuff!

Harry Winks – N/A

Steven Bergwijn – N/A
