Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the 3-1 win over Morecambe

Tottenham Hotspur are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after they came from behind to defeat Morecambe 3-1 in North London.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Pierluigi Gollini – 5 – Should have come out to easily pick up a ball being shepherded by Rodon. The resulting corner led to Morecambe’s goal.

Matt Doherty – 6.5 – Got up and down the right side pretty well and was a constant outlet in behind. Hit the post but the ball didn’t quite fall for him in the box. A decent performance.

Japhet Tanganga – 4 – Completely let his man go from the corner for Morecambe’s goal. Off the back of that Chelsea disaster, it was another mistake that cost Spurs.

Joe Rodon – 6 – A couple of sloppy moments, which is to be expected considering how little game time he has been given. I don’t blame him for conceding that corner.

Ben Davies – 6 – Looked confident and assured as usual. Defended well and got forward to contribute to attack too. Few complaints with Ben today, he did his job.

Ryan Sessegnon – 6.5 – A constant threat at LWB, albeit with the final cross a little lacking when it came to it. A delightful run inside in the first half almost led to a goal.

Harry Winks – 8 – Tottenham’s best player for me. The only one who consistently created attacks, even though he was the deepest midfielder. And what a goal that was!

Tanguy Ndombele – 5 – Lacked that bite and desire we want to see from him. Even on the ball, where he normally shines, he was average at best today. Looked clumsy at times.

Giovani Lo Celso – 5.5 – I think tame is the best way to describe his performance. Every pass was either simple or an attempted clever flick. Every shot was hit without pace. He did claim a late assist for Kane though.

Dele Alli – 5.5 – I appreciated that he was working really hard out there and chasing down every ball. He is also not a centre-forward, so it was tough for him. But we needed more.

Bryan Gil – 6 – At the very least, he takes people on and tries to make things happen. However, he is still too raw and one-dimensional at the moment for me.

Substitutes:

Harry Kane – 7.5 – Showed his class, as he should against a League One side. Finished expertly from a tight angle after missing a good headed chance earlier.

Lucas Moura – 7.5 – Much more direct pace and danger from Moura. Won the ball back from Morecambe and ran half the pitch to take it around the keeper and score.

Oliver Skipp – 6 – Came on and added some much-needed bite and press to the midfield.

Emerson Royal – N/A – Won the ball back really well in the build-up to Kane’s goal.

Dane Scarlett – N/A
