Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from their 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town

Tottenham Hotspur were in action in their first pre-season friendly of the month today as they welcomed Ipswich Town to North London.

While the 3-0 scoreline reflected a convincing team win, let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – N/A – He was present… I think?

Gedson Fernandes – 7 – Seemed to switch between right-wing and right-back throughout and really grew into the game. If he can add consistency to his final pass/cross, he could be a very handy player.

Juan Foyth – 6 – Looked like a man who hasn’t played regular football in well over a year. However, it was a delightful ball through to Sonny for the third goal. Interesting to see if he locks down the understudy right-back spot next year.

Toby Alderweireld – 5 – Wasn’t tested a whole lot defensively, but pulled out some lovely cross-field pings to start attacks.

Ben Davies – 4.5 – It was just a bit of a training exercise at the back for Davies, who was utilised as more of a centre-back than a left-back.

Ryan Sessegnon – 6 – The Spurs youngster took his goal expertly with a perfect touch inside and finish past the keeper. Was very quiet after his goal.

Harry Winks – 5 – Neat and tidy as usual. Actually seemed to sit a little deeper than even Hojbjerg, which was an interesting insight.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6 – Cut out the pass that directly led to Heung-min Son’s goal. Showing exactly what Mourinho brought him in to do. Nice to see him throwing some orders around to other players too.

Lucas Moura – 5.5 – Looked very lively, although his good intentions lacked a consistent end product.

Dele Alli – 8 – A lovely ball over to Sessegnon in the first five minutes for the opening goal. Just a few moments later and Dele has his second assist of the game. He was at the centre of every good move, although he certainly gave Gedson a lot of stick throughout the game.

Heung-min Son – 7.5 – Took his chance for the second Spurs goal well, although it was nearly impossible to miss. His second goal was far more difficult and his dainty little chip was a joy to watch!

Substitutes:

Joe Hart – N/A – Very interesting in a behind-closed-doors environment. You can hear Hart shouting and ordering the defence around non-stop!

Cameron Carter-Vickers – 4.5 – Definitely earned himself a pre-season after his performances for Luton Town. Didn’t really have anything to do though.

Dennis Cirkin – 6.5 – This lad looks to be a really tidy footballer. I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if he was Tottenham’s second-choice left-back this season.

Jack Clarke – 5.5 – Looked very bright after coming on at half-time. At first glance, it seems his dribbling is different class, but passing in tight spaces needs work. Not quite sure where he fits into the squad.

Harvey White – 5.5 – Looks a very tidy central midfielder. Nice for him to get some minutes.

Dane Scarlett – N/A – Came close to scoring what would have been a dream goal for the 16-year-old.

Alfie Devine – N/A

Paulo Gazzaniga – N/A – Came on for the final 20 minutes.

Jamie Bowden – N/A
