Opinion: Tottenham’s best current XI based on performance and effort this season

In these tough times, Tottenham need stars who are willing to play for the badge and run through brick walls to get a result for their teammates and fans.

Spurs need quality, but they perhaps need effort, passion, and togetherness above all else at the moment after taking just three wins from eleven this season.

It is not a time to pick big names based on their history. Pochettino must make his selections based on what the players have shown on the pitch over the past two months.

Let’s take a look at my best XI based on these factors, assuming that everyone was fit:

Lloris – I still believe that Lloris is the club’s best keeper and his shot-stopping ability is second-to-none. Poch just needs to put an arm around his shoulder and have a word about his decision-making. Play it safe and Lloris is class.

Kyle Walker-Peters – Not as talented as Trippier or Walker before him, but KWP will guarantee effort and passion as a boyhood fan.

Toby Alderweireld – Not at his best but he has been the best Spurs defender this season by a mile.

Japhet Tanganga – Time to bed some new talent into the defence and this boy looks class.

Danny Rose – Ben Davies highlighted against Brighton that Rose is still the best left-back at Spurs by far, even if he does come with the odd mistake. You are also guaranteed 110% from this lad.

Harry Winks – One of Tottenham’s top performers so far this season and you just know that he would do anything for a win.

Tanguy Ndombele – A sensational signing who looks to be finding his feet. More consistency and he could become one of the club’s best.

Moussa Sissoko – Covers so much ground and puts in so much effort for his teammates. Underrated.

Erik Lamela – The surprise package of the season, Lamela has been class, mainly down to the sheer effort he puts in compared to others.

Heung Min Son – Sonny has often been let down by his defensive teammates this season but he has put in multiple positive performances.

Harry Kane – He’s one of our own and his goals speak for themselves. The problem is that he has had very little service this season.
