Opinion: Tottenham’s best possible XI after an incredible summer transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur undoubtedly enjoyed a magnificent summer transfer window, but with new players comes new decisions for Jose Mourinho. So what exactly is his best XI?

Goalkeeper:

Hugo Lloris is, of course, the number one choice this season. I’m all for getting some cash for Gazzaniga, but if he is not sold by the domestic deadline, he should be reinstated as the second choice above Joe Hart.

Right-back:

Matt Doherty is the new boy and gets the nod for me, but I get the impression that Serge Aurier will not go down without a fight. His game against Man United was perhaps his best yet.

Central defence:

With Alderweireld, Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga, and possible a new addition, there will be plenty of partnerships this season. However, the long-term one I want to see develop is Dier and Tanganga. Dier is our most dominant in the air and I honestly believe that, with a run of games, Tanganga will become out best all-round defender.

Left-back:

The choice here depends on the system, but I definitely want to see Sergio Reguilon handed an extended run in the team. He looks to be full of energy and attacking talent, but will also push Ben Davies too.

Central midfield:

Again, expect a lot of rotation depending on the game plan. However, I think I can speak for most Spurs fans when I say that I really want to see the trio of Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, and Ndombele develop, with the latter two rotating as the more attacking option.

Wingers:

Gareth Bale and Heung-min Son, say no more. However, it is important to note that both will also have to do a job defensively in these positions.

Striker:

Harry Kane… come on.
