Opinion: Why have I not seen this player even on the bench yet this season?

Even considering Troy Parrott, the player who got me most excited on pre-season this year was young Japhet Tanganga.

If you knew nothing about Spurs and watched those games in Asia, you probably would have guessed that Tanganga was the top centre-back at the club.

He slotted in alongside Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld and looked comfortable from the first minute to the last.

Not only is he good with his feet, but he is also a no-nonsense player who defends first and doesn’t take unnecessary risks, much like Toby.

Japhet is also over 20-years-old, so he is more experienced than a lot of the Tottenham academy players like Troy Parrot at 17.

This is why I would love to see Tanganga transitioned into the squad, starting off with some appearances on the bench and last-minute cameos.

I am just looking for a sign that Poch has noticed the player and intends to integrate him as one of the next graduates sooner rather than later.

The fact that he didn’t go out on loan this summer tends to suggest to me that this could happen. Perhaps the Carabao Cup game against Colchester will be the perfect chance to blood the new defender.

Fingers crossed! This kid looks promising to say the least!
