Opinion: Why some Spurs fans need to calm down about the Crystal Palace draw

Tottenham Hotspur arguably suffered their first disappointing Premier League result in a long time yesterday afternoon after failing to defeat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Although the 0-0 draw against Chelsea was far from exciting, it at least represented a good return from a fixture against a fellow top-four rival.

However, some fans on Twitter were left upset by the manner in which Spurs dropped two points in south London surrendering the initiative against the Eagles.

Spurs started the match well and bossed large parts of the first half, only to drop back and defend for their lives in the second 45, which ultimately failed.

While I agree that it was a frustrating match to watch, I think that some Tottenham supporters are losing their heads a little early this season.

We have to remember a few things:

One – We are only one-third of the way through the season and Tottenham are in the title conversation… that is huge!

Two – Jose Mourinho teams rarely win games by more than one or two, so we will have to accept the odd frustrating draw. That is just the reality of the game plan.

Three – A low points tally will win the Premier League this season. We are not going to see the 100 point mark reached this year. As long as Spurs keep ticking along, they will do just fine.

The only way in which Spurs drop out of the title race is if the fans start to get on the players’ and manager’s backs due to the lack of entertaining football and goals galore.
