Opinion: Why Spurs fans need to calm down about Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham Hotspur fans were given another glimpse of their new signing, Giovani Lo Celso, on Tuesday night as he returned from injury against Red Star Belgrade.

However, the Argentine was only given 12 minutes, making his fourth appearance from the bench, but still yet to earn his full debut in a Lilywhite shirt.

Lo Celso seemed to be building up to his first start at the beginning of the season, but that was interrupted by an injury he sustained on duty for his country.

Ryan Sessegnon, meanwhile, has not appeared in a Spurs shirt at all this season, with the winger/full-back being injured when Tottenham bought him from Fulham. However, the teenager is back in training, so an appearance may not be far off.

I am seeing a lot of fans on Twitter begging for Spurs to start Lo Celso and Sessegnon against Liverpool this weekend, but I believe this would be a huge mistake.

These guys may be exciting and I’m sure they will be big hits as the season ticks along, but it is far too early for either of them to start.

I would argue that they need a few weeks of training and a handfull of substitute appearances before Poch even thinks about starting them.

The last thing Spurs need right now is more injuries to new players, or to field players who are simply not fit enough to maintain the effort-levels needed.

Some Spurs fans need to contain their excitement and let the two new boys reach a starting position in a sensible time frame.
