Opinion: Why Tottenham fans need to stick with Dele Alli and Harry Winks

Tottenham Hotspur lost yet another Premier League match yesterday as they visited Anfield, making it four losses from 10 and just three victories in that time.

Pochettino named a five-man midfield, with Harry Winks and Dele Alli being two players at the centre of that unit, tasked with dealing with the likes of Henderson, Wijnaldum, and Fabinho.

While both Winks and Alli were poor in possession and created nothing close to quality on the ball, I would argue that they were not the worst performers out there.

The vast majority of Liverpool’s chances throughout the game came from the full-backs, as the Reds found it tricky to create the space in the middle of the park through a compact Spurs midfield.

I believe that the likes of Son, Eriksen, Aurier, and Rose should take the majority of the defensive stick.

I also believe that it was extremely tough for the Tottenham midfield to get out and find a pass yesterday with the team being instructed to sit so deep and with one single isolated figure of Harry Kane to find.

While I think that Eriksen, Rose, and Aurier are done at Spurs, I would like to see the fans stick with Winks and Alli.

I think the systems played this season and the poor run of form has cast a dark shadow over the two of them, but they are both still very young players and will only improve.

I honestly believe that they will be able to find their best form again and run the Spurs midfield for years, but the supporters must keep supporting them.

They do not deserve to be put into the same bracket as the three mentioned above. One Winks, Ndombele, and Sissoko get their partnership down and Alli gets back into his favoured position further up the pitch, we will see the best of them again.
