Opinion: Why Tottenham’s season may be done if they don’t beat Watford

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the so-called ‘big six’, they have been top-four regulars since Pochettino took over, and they reached the Champions League Final last year.

Spurs have certainly taken huge steps forward over the past five years, but with that comes a certain sense of expectation now.

Tottenham fans expect the team to finish in the top four. They expect them to get out of the Champions League group. They expect a cup run. What they want is to see the club fulfil its potential and lift a trophy.

However, Spurs have won just three from eight in the Premier League and currently sit in ninth. They are out of the Carabao Cup and they sit joint bottom of the Champions League group.

It seems like the perfect time to have a match at home to Watford, the rock bottom team in the league.

However, with Pochettino already under pressure and the players at an all-time low, anything but a win against Watford could destroy Tottenham’s season.

Spurs follow up this fixture with a Champions League tie against Red Star Belgrade, followed by back-to-back away Merseyside fixtures against Liverpool and Everton.

That is not a run of fixtures you want to go in off the back of three wins from twelve games. I also can’t see Spurs kick-starting their form in any of these games.

The change has to start against Watford, otherwise, I fear for this team and this manager.
