Opposition View: Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

We recently caught up with the lads over at Republik Of Mancunia and asked them a few questions ahead of Saturday evening’s Premier League encounter between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Let’s start with the obvious.  What’s your take on the Wayne Rooney saga?
It’s really, really disappointing. He needlessly pretended he cared about our club, kissed the badge, repeatedly said he wanted to see out his career with us, but then tried to leave for our local rivals for a bigger pay day.

Why Manchester United and how long have you supported them?
United are my local team and the team of my family, so I’ve supported them since being a kid. My dad was taking to me games since before I can remember.

Who do you believe will be the key players from both sides in this weekends clash?
Berbatov, Nani, Van der Vart and Modric. Obviously defence will be important for both, but I think those will be the players that pose the biggest threat to the opposition.

Michael Carrick & Dimitar Berbatov – Two former Spurs players, how are they both doing at United?
Carrick had a great first three seasons, winning everything and playing an important role in that. Since playing with a broken toe in the CL final 2009 and getting ragged, he’s been poor. It’s been a while since a player has split the fans opinion like Berbatov has. I think he’s a cut above. Real quality player. But he doesn’t run around enough for some. He needs to score more goals and so far this season, he’s been doing that.

Where do you think both clubs will finish in the Premier League and Champions League this season?
I think United will win the league and I hope Spurs finish 4th. As for Champions League, you can never really predict it, but Spurs should make it out of the group.

If you could sign only one of the current Spurs squad, who would it be and why?
Bale. He’s class, young, up for the big occasion.

What is your view of Tottenham Hotspur as a club?
I quite like them to be honest. I think Redknapp is a bit of a cock but other than that, yeh, no hard feelings. You’ve got a great squad, play some good football, nothing to complain about really.

And finally, what is your score prediction for the game?
2-1 United.
