Opta statistics show Spurs still have a percentage chance of winning the Premier League

Opta have handed Tottenham Hotspur a measly 0.1 per cent chance of being crowned Premier League champions this season.

Mathematically speaking, one would feel that Spurs are still very much in the race for the title, with the Lilywhites sitting just seven points off the top of the table with 15 league games still left.

However, the evidence of Tottenham’s recent showings suggests that they simply are not ready to keep pace with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Not only have Ange Postecoglou’s men continued to leak goals defensively, but they have also struggled to fashion chances in some of their recent games, including the FA Cup loss to City last month and the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park last Saturday.

Tottenham have a 0.1% chance of Premier League win

Even the most optimistic of Spurs fans will likely concede that this is a year too early for the club to be dreaming of a potential title tilt.

That is borne out by the number crunching done by data analysis platform Opta (as relayed by Sky Sports), who give Tottenham a 0.1 per cent chance of winning their first league title since 1961.

The platform suggests that Pep Guaridola’s men are overwhelming favourites to win their fourth consecutive Premier League trophy, giving them a 66.2 per cent chance of doing so.

Now that Tottenham have nearly a full-strength team, it is perhaps not far fetched to expect the side to go on a good run over the next couple of months. However, keeping pace with Man City would be next to impossible, with the reigning champions now going through their gears.
