Ornstein claims Conte is ‘very unlikely’ to sign new Spurs deal ‘anytime soon’

David Ornstein has claimed that Antonio Conte is ‘very unlikely’ to sign a new Tottenham contract ‘anytime soon’ and may even wait until the summer (NBC).

Conte has almost been in the Spurs job for a full year now, after taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo in early November 2021 following the Portuguese head coach’s sacking.

However, Ornstein reiterates that Conte is only contracted until the summer of 2023, and even though Spurs have an option to extend the deal, the decision will ultimately be up to the Italian.

Some reports have indicated of late that Tottenham will use the World Cup break to open talks with Conte over a new deal next month (The Daily Mail), but Ornstein believes these are wide of the mark.

The journalist claims that ‘a number of sources around the situation’ have told him that Conte is very unlikely to sign anytime soon and will make a decision towards the end of the season, or even the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I’m sure that Conte will give the board some kind of indication of his intentions before the summer. After all, would he really demand money in January only to leave the project within six months? As long as Levy and co back him financially, I think he will stay.
