‘Other clubs also interested’ – Fabrizio Romano provides Lo Celso update as Spurs seek exit

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Villarreal are now in ‘direct negotiations’ with Tottenham about Giovani Lo Celso.

Lo Celso appears to have played his final game for Spurs, with the Argentine not being a part of Antonio Conte’s pre-season plans so far.

It was reported earlier this month that Villarreal were keen on signing the 26-year-old permanently on the back of his loan spell at the club but that the La Liga side would have to sell players before they can make a move for the Spurs man (Todofichajes).

Over recent weeks, it has also been suggested that Fiorentina (The Times) and Napoli (Area Napoli) are on Lo Celso’s trail, while Spurs are allegedly contemplating offering the midfielder to AS Roma as a makeweight in a deal for Nicolo Zaniolo (CalcioMercatoWeb).

Romano has now taken to social media to state that Italian clubs are continuing to explore a deal for the Argentina international.

However, the journalist asserted that Villarreal are in direct contact with Spurs regarding a deal for the midfielder, who is said to be Unai Emery’s top target.

It is evident that Villarreal is Lo Celso’s preferred destination this summer. I suspect that the midfielder’s move to El Madrigal will accelerate if and when Chelsea or Juventus snap up Pau Torres, thus giving Unai Emery’s men the funds to pursue the Tottenham man.
