The Brazilian press has showered praise on Richarlison this week, with one columnist suggesting that the Tottenham forward is the perfect role model for young Brazilians to look up to.
Unlike some of the superstars of Brazilian football, Richarlison was not seen as a golden boy during his younger days and had to climb the ladder the hard way.
The 25-year-old is undoubtedly one of Selecao’s most important players heading into this November’s World Cup and his big-money move from Everton to Spurs in the summer has only served to raise his profile.
Richardson enjoyed a fairytale Champions League debut on Wednesday as he scored two brilliant headers in the second half to help the Lilywhites get their campaign off to a winning start.
Following his showing, UOL columnist Bruno Andrade labelled the Tottenham man as Brazil’s ‘saviour’ and talked in glowing terms of the forward for not forgetting his roots.
He wrote: “In a Brazil so lacking in football idols and, above all, references in power, Richarlison emerges as our saviour. He fills us with pride with each achievement,” the piece says.
“He is fully aware of the need and responsibility to constantly pierce the bubble that allows and favours self-indulgence among his people. He is not an example just for valuing his own and suffering past-and so many others.

Despite the criticism he gets from the media for some of his antics, there is a down-to-earth, unassuming nature about Richarlison that makes him very likeable. It is not surprising that Everton and Brazil fans loved the 25-year-old so much, and Spurs fans have seemingly already taken to him in a major way.
