Tottenham Hotspur already had a pretty impressive transfer window prior to yesterday, with six new additions being brought in before the European transfer window closed.
All six players helped address key areas of weaknesses in the squad, with Jose Mourinho even labelling Daniel Levy “a genius” for some of the deals he pulled off (Football.London).
Central defence was arguably the only area of the pitch Spurs were a little short in and the North Londoners seem to have addressed that problem with the deadline day acquisition of Joe Rodon from Swansea City.
The 22-year-old is rated by many as one of the best prospects in the Championship and has already become a regular for the Welsh national side.
Reports indicate that Spurs have agreed on a deal for the centre-back worth £11 million plus add-ons (BBC Wales’ Gareth Vincent), which certainly seems like a massive bargain based on the apoplectic reaction from some Swansea fans.
Levy has often been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism from the Tottenham fan base but there was nothing but praise for 58-year-old on social media after Spurs secured Rodon, with many admitting that they were wrong to question the Tottenham chairman’s ambition
Who are you and what have you done with the real Daniel Levy.
Never been a fan but certainly can’t be the scapegoat of our 2020/21 season.
Over to you José and squad#COYS ?

With Joe Rodon’s signing, we can say that Daniel Levy and José Mourinho have combined for a 10/10 transfer window for Spurs. First time we have shown such focus and ambition in the transfer market. We addressed all of the problems in the squad and look serious now, exciting times!

Smart business all-round by Spurs this window. Filled-in areas that we needed, all on a budget, didn’t sell any talent and brought home Gareth Bale ? Credit to the club, Jose and Mr Levy for getting it done ???? #COYS #THFC pic.twitter.com/40zcM9J3Ul

You have to give Levy credit. He has been a MASSIVE fan of Mourinho and took a massive risk in sacking Poch and paying José the big money and has fully backed him. I can admit I have previously questioned Levy’s ambition to improve the squad but he has made me eat my words

Shrewd business in a very difficult window. Improved the starting 11 and squad depth in areas we desperately had to address. Credit to Levy, Jose now has a squad to compete on all fronts. Excited for the season ahead of us, COYS ?? #THFC

To have such a fantastic transfer window in the current circumstances really is top class. Levy’s best ever window by a country mile. Over to you, Jose!#COYS #THFC

Spurs Web Opinion
What some Spurs fans are refusing to contemplate is the possibility that it was Pochettino who was very picky with his transfer targets rather than Levy refusing to back him. Levy backed the likes of Martin Jol, Juande Ramos, Harry Redknapp, Andre Villas-Boas in the transfer market and seems to be doing the same for Mourinho.
It is not like we have spent particularly big this summer either. As The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick suggested recently, it just might be the case that Pochettino was a hard man to please in the transfer window, while Mourinho is more open to taking on board the scouting department’s recommendations.
