‘Overdue’ – Some Spurs fans react after club confirm sale of winger

Some Tottenham fans on social media have reacted following the club’s confirmation of Anthony Georgiou’s departure, with many feeling that he should have been let go a long time ago.

Tottenham yesterday confirmed on Twitter that Georgiou has completed a move to Cypriot outfit AEL Limassol after spending eight years in North London.

The transfer did not come as much of a surprise, with reports earlier in the week revealing that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs and the winger had completed a medical ahead of his move.

Georgiou progressed through the ranks in the Tottenham academy but managed to make only one competitive first-team appearance for the club which came in a UEFA Champions League victory at APOEL in September 2017.

The 23-year-old failed to make much of an impression during his loan spells at Ipswich and Norwich last season and has now made the permanent exit from North London to get regular first-team football.

Some Spurs fans remembered how the youngster often used to shine in pre-season games, with a few even admitting that they expected him to be a first-team prospect at one time.

Spurs Web Opinion

I never thought Georgiou was going to make it as a winger at the top level but it did seem at one point like he could potentially be converted into a semi-decent left-back but that did not quite materialise. Hopefully, the youngster can now showcase his attributes with regular football under his belt.
