‘Overwhelming’ – Spurs starlet Troy Parrott reacts to breaking goal drought with brace

Troy Parrott has admitted his delight at ending his goal drought for MK Dons in style on Wednesday and thanked his teammates and the fans for sticking by him.

Parrott had been in exceptional form for MK Dons over recent months, showcasing his exemplary vision and technique while operating as a number ten.

However, the striker’s lack of goals was starting to become a concern, with the Spurs academy graduate not having found the back of the net since October. The 20-year-old finally ended his drought on Wednesday as the Dons beat Cheltenham Town 3-1.

The Republic of Ireland international rose superbly in the box to head home a looping cross to give Liam Manning’s side the lead early in the first half.

He then put the result to bed late in the game by producing an arrowed finish into the bottom corner from a tight angle late in the second half.

Parrott admitted that the two strikes were massive for his confidence after what he has been through over the last few months.

The on-loan Spurs striker told MK Citizen after the 3-1 win: “I’ve been getting a lot of support from the fans, the gaffer and the boys. Seeing how happy everyone was to see me score was overwhelming really.

“They show so much confidence in me and I cannot ask for much more. Hopefully, it continues now. I’ve had a lot of chances to score and it hasn’t come but I’m buzzing tonight. For my confidence, it’s massive.

“The second goal I didn’t even have to think about it, I just hit it and it went in. It’s a feeling that never gets old, especially going so long without a goal. You could see what it meant to me.”

Parrott certainly deserved those goals, given the level of performances he has been putting in since the turn of the year. The 20-year-old has shown this season that he is ready to make the step up to the Championship and I would expect plenty of clubs from the second tier to express interest in signing him on loan in the summer.
