Owner admits club ‘are prepared’ for potential sale of Spurs target in January

FC Basel owner David Degen has revealed the Swiss club are prepared to sell rumoured Tottenham target Arthur Cabral before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Cabral has been an outstanding success since leaving Palmeiras to move to Switzerland in 2019.

The striker has been on fire so far this campaign, having found the back of the net 27 times across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

TEAMtalk previously reported that Spurs were one of several Premier League clubs who were watching the Brazilian’s progress at Basel.

The Lilywhites were said to be facing competition from the likes of Arsenal, Leeds, Everton, West Ham, Brighton and Southampton for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Cabral admitted earlier this month that he is a big fan of English football and he dreams of a move to the Premier League (Blick).

Degen has now stated that Basel are open to selling Cabral if a suitable offer arrives over the next few days.

The Basel owner told Tuttomercatoweb: “Cabral away in January? I don’t know if it will leave or not. There will be an exit only if there is an agreement between both parties.

“But I can reassure everyone that in case of departure from Cabral we are prepared. We have been working for weeks and months on a possible replacement should the situation arise.”

A backup to Harry Kane does not seem to be on Tottenham’s wishlists before Monday’s deadline. However, that will likely be one of Paratici’s priorities during the summer transfer window.

While Cabral would not be a glamorous addition, he could do a job as Kane’s understudy and perhaps the 23-year-old would be content with a bit-part role at Spurs.
