‘Painful to watch’ – Ex-Spurs player labels display against Burnley as ‘terrible’

Jamie O’Hara believes Tottenham’s win over Burnley was ‘painful to watch’ but admitted the most important thing was adding another three points to put the pressure back on Arsenal’s shoulders.

Harry Kane’s first half penalty was enough to earn Spurs a crucial 1-0 win, which has lifted them ahead of the Gunners into fourth place in the Premier League table.

A number of Spurs chances early on in proceedings were stifled by visitors Burnley, who made it difficult for Antonio Conte’s men to gain any clear sights of goal.

The Clarets defended resolutely until Ashley Barnes was adjudged to have handled Davinson Sanchez’s flicked pass in the area, with Kane slotting home the resulting spot kick after referee Kevin Friend consulted his VAR monitor.

The incident right before half-time didn’t set Burnley back though, who continued to frustrate Tottenham throughout the second period into a nervy finish in North London.

While the pressure has moved onto Arsenal ahead of their trip to Newcastle on Monday, former Spurs midfielder O’Hara argued his old team produced a ‘terrible’ display that was difficult to watch.

He wrote via Twitter: “That was painful to watch, terrible performance but all that matters is the three points. Huge pressure on Arsenal now, have to win.”

It wasn’t a classic by any means, but Tottenham found a way to get three important points to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Burnley’s set-up can be difficult to break down and Spurs again found that out as they struggled to carve out many high-quality chances, but they made sure to fully capitalise on that penalty incident.
